Multicast Streaming Audio

Tech Support

On-The-I.com uses two methods for streaming music to your computer.

Multicasting, a method not currently supported by all internet service providers, offers a potentially vast reach at a substantially low cost in terms of bandwith. It also is enabled to take advantage of error correction, thus resulting in a more stable, higher quality audio stream.

Unicasting is a more commonly used method that has bandwith limitations as well as intermittant data loss resulting in audio drop out.

For this reason, On-The-I recommends trying the Multicast options first, before settling for the Unicast stream. We hope you enjoy your music experience!
If you find that you cannot receive multicasts, do not despair. You will just have to call or e-mail your Internet Service Provider (or network service administrator). Just tell them that you want to receive multicasts using PIM-Sparse Mode with MSDP and MBGP. It sounds like gobbledy-gook, but they'll know what you mean - and it should be free.
